Sky News react to the exit polls

Sky News presenter Kay Burley has been singled out by Dan Wootton as he accused her of bias during the channels election night coverage. Kay was the lead anchor for the live TV event alongside Sophy Ridge and they were joined throughout the evening by Beth Rigby, Trevor Phillips, Ed Conway and Sam Coates.

Dan took to X to post a clip from the programme for his 565,500 followers, which showed the countdown to the polls closing before the results of the exit poll were broadcast for viewers showing a landslide for the Sir Keir Starmer led Labour Party. Kay can be heard laughing at the result as the graphic appears on screen.

He captioned the post: "If you ever needed proof that Kay Burley and Sly News are nothing more than Labour stooges. So unprofessional." (sic)

Express.co.uk have contacted Sky News and Kay Burley for comment.

Some viewers backed him up, as one said: "This Kay Burley is so biased," as another added: "I’m normally a fan of GBNews but find it in bad taste that they are holding an election night celebration party. On the other hand I can’t watch Sky News with the rabid and biased Kay Burley presenting the programme. As for the BBC I can’t even contemplate watching that channel."

Labour won the election by a landside with 412 seats in total. This compares to just 121 for the Conservatives who suffered their worst election result in their history.

This morning (June 5) Rishi Sunak gave his final speech as Prime Mnister in which he said "I am sorry" to the nation.

"I will shortly be seeing His Majesty the King to offer my resignation as Prime Minister," he said speaking outside Downing Street. To the country, I would like to say first and foremost, I am sorry.

"I have given this job my all, but you have sent a clear signal that the Government of the United Kingdom must change. And yours is the only judgment that matters.

"I have heard your anger, your disappointment, and I take responsibility for this loss," he conceded.

He also announced his resignation as leader of the Tories. "Following this result I will step down as party leader - not immediately, but once the formal arrangements for selecting my successor are in place," he revealed.

"It is important that after 14 years in government the Conservative Party rebuilds, but also that it takes up its crucial role in opposition professionally and effectively."

Apologising to Conservative candidates and campaigners, he said: "I'm sorry that we could not deliver what your efforts deserved.

"It pains me to think how many good colleagues who contributed so much to their communities and our country will now no longer sit in the House of Commons. I thank them for their hard work and their service."
