Rob Lowe has revealed his sole requirement for agreeing to a potential Parks and Recreation reboot. The former teen idol and icon of American television joined the NBC sitcom at the end of season two, alongside Adam Scott, as Chris Traeger, a state auditor visiting the government of the fictional city of Pawnee to help solve their financial issues. Though Lowe initially only intended to appear as a guest star, the undeniable chemistry he had with the show's central cast and his relentlessly optimistic and charming portrayal of Traeger quickly turned him into a fan favorite, leading him to join the cast as a full-fledged member of the series after season two.
Lowe was eventually written off of Parks and Recreation along with Rashida Jones, who played his on-screen partner in 2014, about halfway through season six, due to the actors' interest in exploring other career opportunities. However, he continued to reprise his role in the 2015 series finale "One Last Ride," neatly wrapping up Chris Traeger's storyline, and was featured in a 2020 episode titled "A Parks and Recreation Special." Now, months after Amy Poehler, the show's lead, expressed interest in a Parks and Recreation reboot, fans can't help but wonder if Rob Lowe would be willing to step into Chris Traeger's running sneakers once again.

In an interview with Parade, Rob Lowe confirmed that he would agree to partake in a Parks and Recreation reboot on the condition that the series' lead Amy Poehler directs it. Citing his admiration for his co-star, Lowe sweetly revealed that his only rule in show business is to follow Poehler wherever she goes, including a potential reboot of their shared sitcom. Poehler notably directed a few episodes of the original series and has since gained even more directorial experience with films like the documentary Lucy and Desi and Netflix's hit film Moxie, making Lowe's request all the more plausible.
I will do the Parks and Rec thing as long as Amy directs it.
Who Else Could Return For A Parks & Rec Reboot
Rob Lowe is not the only Parks and Rec cast member who has shown interest in a reboot. Along with Poehler, Nick Offerman, who played Ron Swanson on the show, revealed that he would love the chance to reunite the cast. Even Chris Pratt, propelled to Hollywood stardom after his turn as the lovable Andy Dwyer has said that as long as his schedule allows for it, he would return to the show that gave him his start.
Despite interest from the cast and fans alike, no Parks and Recreation reboot is currently in the works. According to the show's creator, Mike Schur, the series finale brought enough closure to the characters' individual and intertwined storylines that there would be no need to revisit them unless every key cast member was on board. In recent years reboots and revivals have been produced at an increasingly high rate. The benefits of a built-in audience and nostalgia appeal ensure viewership and fan enthusiasm. With more and more cast members from Parks and Recreation publicly voicing their hopes for a reboot and the success of the most recent 2020 special episode, it is as possible that fans may eventually get another glimpse at life in Pawnee.
