The 26 best shopping and stores in Hurghada (2024)

Hurghada International Airport is situated 5 km southwest of downtown Hurghada, a coastal resort on the Red Sea. The airport has expanded in recent years, adding an international section and a terminal for domestic flights. Travelers can easily reach downtown Hurghada from the airport through various means, including pre-booking an airport transfer. The area surrounding the airport boasts stunning views of desert mountains and sandy beaches, making it a popular destination for aquatic sports enthusiasts and beach lovers.

We went in holiday in Egypt and we flew to Hurghada International Airport. Was a nice experience. They have a lot of security checks point and this is a good way to protect the people. If you want to buy cigarettes very cheap you can buy from duty free. The airport is modern and clean.

Worst experience ever!We traveled to several airports, including Africa but this one is by far the worst. International departures has couple of souvenir stores and duty free ones but with poor offer. There is also a restaurant and cafeteria to spend your time while waiting to board. The overall public area and toilets are decent clean. We didn’t see any baggage wrapping service around. The worst part is the check-in process and interaction with airport/ government representatives. For the 1st instance we were refused boarding for our flight (together with some other 8 people), so we spent couple of hours in the night trying to identify the reason and get proper evidence for their decision. No representative for the company was there, we were not presented our rights or any other details. The information desk was useless, saying that this happens often and there is nothing for them to do. Tourism police was also useless, they weren’t even speaking in English to us. At some point they were saying that we cannot board as we landed on a different airport. We asked several times for a written confirmation on boarding denial or at least to tell us their name, nothing. After boarding time has passed they asked us to leave the airport. This is really an awful experience and I don’t want to think of the persons who might travel for the first time, or are low on money, don’t have a good level of English, etc. Just horrible!Second time we managed to board, from 3 check-in desks only 1 was open and worked really slow. There were no pens to fill in the exit the country form, so make sure you have one at hand. At passport control again there were only 2 officials although several international flights were scheduled at the time. Although we had our passport check and exist Visa, keep your passport at hand as you will be asked to show it one more time.I would not recommend this airport to anyone and don’t think I will ever come back.

Not big airport, easy access to the locationsHaving few terminalsIf you have pick up most probably the driver will wait you outside behind the taxis, near the road so you need to go out of the terminalWe were traveling with hand luggage only, so can’t comment regarding the waiting time for baggage….

An excellent airport with adequate facilities. Very high security, which in turn gives an unsafe feeling. But why I only give three stars has mainly to do with the toilets. When you walk in here the cleaner comes right after you to beg for tips in a forceful and intimidating way. Very unpleasant and intimidating. I don't even mind paying a small amount for the toilet, but this doesn't seem like the way to me.

Last visited in 2019, now again in 2023, but it has become so big in 4 years, 1 international section has been added and 1 terminal for domestic flights and if you just do what they ask, men at the men and women in the queue for the take off women's shoes during the scan then you will have few problems. Also read many other reviews here, I think it also depends on how you position yourself, I personally thought it was all quite relaxed. Language barrier is the biggest problem for many people, it seems like the world is ending when those Egyptians start talking and visium such a rule that just had no problems in the Netherlands

Our experience at Hurghada Airport on 8 March left us feeling thoroughly disappointed. From the moment we arrived, it seemed evident that profit was prioritized over tourist service and transparency.Upon arrival, we were immediately accosted by people attempting to sell visas at bigger price. Despite the official visa cost $25, these individuals insisted on charging $30 or £/€25.Moving through the airport, our disappointment continued at the duty-free shops. The absence of displayed prices for products was became apparent that prices were arbitrarily set based on origin of flights. This was exemplified when I attempted to purchase cigarettes, only to be quoted a price that was double what I would pay outside the airport. It felt like a deliberate attempt to take advantage of travelers' lack of options and information. It's disheartening to see such disregard for transparency and fair pricing, in an environment where travelers should feel welcomed and supported, it's disappointing to instead feel like potential targets for exploitation.Don’t forget to bring a pen, you will need it to fill the tourist form.

A modern Airport with a retarded touch of a Bus stop.First the positive aspects.Hurghada airport is a spacious, opened and modern airport with several amenities, including Burger King, duty free shops and some bazar-alike kiosks. You can find enough sitting places for all 42 gates and toilets almost every 250 meters.Unlike many other international airports, Hurghada airport does not offer free WI-FI to any of its passengers. As an alternative, they charge 7 euros for an hour usage! This is just about how much the average Egypt will get per day of work. Totally overpriced!Still in the overpriced line of thought, the kiosks and small Coffee bars, offer a big selection of drinks and sandwiches. A mozzarella sandwich will cost you 139 Egyptian pounds ! That’s almost 10 euros. Now to the security controls. After arriving at the airport and passing 2 security gates, they drop you off at the Arrivals terminal. There they control your passport and ticket and only then you are allowed inside the terminal building. After this, you are X-ray controlled without shoes and so does your carry on and under deck luggage. After your done, they still hand search all luggage and make you sign on they stupid book with your passport info. Finally you are now allowed to proceed to check in.Once checkin is completed, passport control takes place followed by another pointless X ray control, full body control and manual bag check. Once again, they make you sign on their stupid book that you were there.Face masks are mandatory but nearly no airport workers bother to wear it.Besides check-in staff, the entire airport staff was unfriendly, rude and quite pushy on both security and passport controls.- maybe because they aren’t working with a tip box in front of them.Funny fact, so many controls and I got through airside with 500ml of water on my carry on.This retarded and pointless continuous controls are rude and do not represent any aviation security standard. If you overdo security, then do it right ! Or at least, for the best and not for the worst…BRAlex

Very modern airport with so many smoking lounges. Not very crowded. A lot of security processes were made from my entry to the boarding gate. Not many shops inside. Was looking for some souvenirs, but I didn’t find anything good.

The airport is located inland, 5 km (3 miles) southwest of the downtown of the city of Hurghada (El Dahar district). It serves Hurghada, the center of Red Sea Governorate of Egypt, seaport city Safa*ga and a lot of amazing Red Sea beech and aquatic sports resorts: Al Quseir, Sharm El Naga, El Gouna, Al-Mahmya, Soma Bay and Makadi Bay.

Not efficient check-in, passport control and security check procedures. People asking for money at the entrance to toilets. Toilets are dirty and you have to hunt for toilet paper.I gave 2 not 1 star only because it looks pretty modern and I love the fact that they used sleve both way during my trip.

Hurghada Airport's domestic departures area may be small, but it certainly gets the job done. While not particularly spacious, it efficiently caters to the needs of departing passengers. The toilets within the airport were acceptable - clean and well-maintained, ensuring a satisfactory comfort level. One aspect I particularly enjoyed was the presence of a good café within the airport. It provided a pleasant spot to grab a quick bite or a hot cup of coffee, adding a touch of convenience to the departure process. The quality of the food and beverages offered was commendable, allowing passengers to satisfy their hunger or thirst before their flight. From an aesthetic standpoint, the exterior of the airport was truly impressive. It had a modern and sleek design, creating an immediate visual impact. The airport building blended well with its surroundings and gave off a fantastic vibe, instantly setting a positive tone for travelers.

We have only arrived at this airport so far, today we depart and I will update my review after. Arriving was pretty chaotic, there were huge disorganised queues for immigration, a small form needs to be filled in but this isn't clear and it is unclear where to get the forms from. Bring your own pen.The queues are long and slow moving.Once through immigration there are cash points and finally places to buy an Egyptian SIM - about 6 euros for standard one. My SIM - Etisalat didn't activate for a couple of hours. If you leave the airport, you can't re enter. Taxis are priced high and barter well. Look up the price on the careem app whilst you still have internet and haggle well 🙄Well we were overcharged by the taxi on the way back in, Careem adds a charge of 35 egp, our driver then added an extra 170 egp 😲. Airport is pretty good, lots of shops, lots of smoking rooms, water fountains - otherwise small bottles of water are 25 egp. A very friendly feel to this airport.

Hurghada airport, it's a bit of a farce to actually get into departures, full security check BEFORE you even check in bags all bags though scanners, then everyone has to check in via a check-in desk (like old days) so even if you have a pre printed ticket and no bags to drop you HAVE to go to check in and check in ... Huge queues as they are so slow .. then into security more queues to check passports... Don't forget departure cards to be completed ... Then though to security for more scans and a actual physical search ... Including baby's children women every one ... Which means huge queues .... Then final passport check .... Then into departures. Once in there it's a nice airport.. now arrivals don't get me started .... Visa $25 dollars each person if you don't have dollars it's £25 each .. then fill in a arrival card .. then though security / passport control then wait for ages (over a hour) for bags to arrive .. then queue as all bags are scanned leaving the airport for your holiday ... Don't forget Egypt is a 3rd world country .... That has had its best days 6000 years ago ..

Very clean and huge airport. But there are some strangers in front of toliets and want me to pay as I got in. I really didn't have any coin so that I said Sorry. Never seen any airporta to pay using toliet. Also there are so many smoking rooms and the doors were just open. Very unpleasant as a non smoker. Burger king was a way too much expensive. As landed, there are so many sign " Visa for 25$" BUT privite staff asekd me to pay either €25 or £25. I went to a bank and bought 25$ visa instead.

However, I recommend avoiding buying food after customs, as the prices are excessively high (240 EGP, or 7 euros!!!). Furthermore, when we open the sandwich, we see that half of the cheese and salad are missing, which is scandalous!

What a utter shambles. I have travelled to many countries but this airport was the worst experience I’ve had. We got out of a taxi and a man took our suitcases without us saying OK and put them on a trolley, he then wheeled them 30m and asked us for money. This was the first and only time we experienced this in Egypt. The security is insane at the airport, every time you move your passports are checked - even before you enter the airport itself. There is then a bag scanner, then the passport is checked again and we were stopped for our carry ons to be drug swiped. Then you get to check in, passports checked again where you also have to fill in a Visa card - though then don’t tell you that they just put it in your passport so be sure to fill it in before customs. Then at customs men and women are split into different queues where everyone is patted down including over your genitals. Stopped again for bags to be drug swiped. Then boarding passes checked to go through to duty free area. Once in this area there are little places to eat or drink, a Burger King and cafe, but most annoyingly there weee numerous indoor smoking areas that although were behind a glass door made the whole seating area smell of smoke. This was very unpleasant. Passports then checked again to go to gate, then when boarding then when stepping on to the plane. All very tiresome by this point.

Очень разочарована. Никакого уважения к гостям города. Какие глупые правила в этом отсталом аэропорту. Грубые, некомпетентные сотрудники. Относились к нам как к преступникам.What a stupid rules at this airport, rude staff,Firstly By the entrances kept us outside and demands a passport and ticket, what is outrageous! The check in of Pegasus airlines Abdul is so incompetent, was asking to carry one hand bagage and to take off a back bag what was on it, to make my life easier I needed to keep it that way, however when I checked in with arrival flight from Turkish airlines, check in agent didn't ask me to carry a back bag on the back. then he started to ask what is my pregnancy period, - go to Dr, he must check you, if you are allowed to fly, I said I can, I'm 27th week, can travel till 33 weeks, and my daughter was sleeping in the pram, so once that impudent Abdul took off a baggage tag from the pram, so after long arguing with 2 incompetent men, third man came and said that I don't need to c a Dr., with my date of pregnancy. After this nonsenseWe were told to pass a body control by scan, without shoes throu a dirty red carpet, I was told to lift up my sleeping baby, and to hold my hands on the side, I said. How ?After my body was touched and checked everywhere, the officer took the hand scanner checked again, the said put your leg on the stool, only then they let us go. I felt so humiliated. After scanner one man staring to open our bags and to check them, taking out our things, what a nonsense it just was checked my computer scanner! Then we were told to put down passport flight details on the book. After by passport control an officer checked my daughter's Russian passport asked is your daughter Egyptian ? I said now, look passport is Russian lol.It is written in noble Quran do not complicate things, but make them easy, however those people were doing visa versa.I was First and last time in backward airport like Hurghada. We were humiliated. Disgusting people and place.

Worst experience ever. They treated us like dogs. The staff are not polite and continue to talk and laugh with colleagues even if we were waiting during 10 min in front of the desk. They didn’t respect us because we have dark skin. Because of that we had to go through a lot more check up than others, and during this process they were treating us like we were animals. No respect. Then we bought a SIM card at Orange for 20GB but when we arrived outside and checked the amount of data it was only 14GB. So stay at the airport and check it before leaving the airport because you can’t go back. They betray people.Avoid this country.

The airport is the first contact point for foreigners, and it is also the most crucial point to form the experience of a country. Our first landing in Egypt was at the arrival in Hurghada, and unfortunately our first experience was getting scammed by Taxi drivers. This is something, the airport management needs to improve. I can highly recommend using Uber for mobility.Besides that the airport is clean. For that I will provide 2 Stars.

Enes Ö — Google review

Very weird and eerie experience. Dirty toilets which are only accessible when you hand out your last cash. Me and my fellow flight passengers waited for two hours to get our luggage. We were also scammed as the official visa entry fee is $25. We paid thirty. Customs was also incredibly inefficient. Lots of it felt abandoned. The crowd of people awaited us outside. Scammers. Again. I don’t know how bad departing from this airport will be.

Hurghada Airport is modern, clean and comfortable. Marble floors and big glass windows give an airy feel. There are negative comments but this airport is the same as most tourist airports. Very busy, lots of queues, chaotic due to language barriers, staff stressed due to all this. It's very similar to "modern" airports in Europe. You get treated the same at these airports, sometimes worse.Security is very tight. Several checks. At ArrivalsIt was a long walk to passport control but beautifully hot for December. We had bought our visas Online.through the Egyptian government portal. Simple process. We were through passport control in seconds because we has pre planned and prepared. Unlike many reviewers on here. Why people don't do the absolute basics and check things like visas online etc.Baggage collection was easy and on the way out we had our suitcase scanned through xray and opened for checks. Took 3 minutes. I was offended but when they just wanted to check what was in my toiletries bag as it looked suspicious in the scanner, I let them check. They were just doing their job.At Departures:As soon as you reach the entrance doors, you'll get your passport checked. They only want travelers in there, I presume to stop travelers being hassled by touts. Or to prevent security breaches. Then onto Check-in.Simple enough process there. Ensure your suitcase is locked with a padlock. Then through security.Bags through xray machine. You have to take shoes off and walk on a strip of messy carpet. Wear socks or bring socks for this. You must ensure you empty your pockets, watch, belt, jewellery etc then walk through the scanner to be then patted down.Random bags are searched for compliance. That's it !!!!Very very very similar to every other high security airport. You're into the waiting area which is clean and bright. Very comfortable, air conditioned. There are smoking rooms with glass doors which are left open by travelers so smoke comes into terminal. The toilets are well made, clean and have toilet papers, soap etc.but the attendants ask for money as if they don't get paid for their work.We travel a lot and this is a standard airport much like any other.Reading the reviews I was expecting a nightmare but those reviews are to be taken with a pinch of salt and have definitely much exaggerations.Plan ahead is the key to most airports like thisbuy your visa online as recommended by Egyptian gov.Dress appropriately for searches.Bring your own food.Allow enough time.
