The Ark season 2, episode 8 review 'We Don't Kill Our Own': When clones attack (2024)

During the previous episode of The Ark, we saw the Gen 2 clones were up to something. We see it all play out in "We Don't Kill Our Own."

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for The Ark season 2, episode 8, "We Don't Kill Our Own"

It was obvious that taking the clones on Ark-1 was going to cause trouble. These are people who have been locked up in labs and used for organ transplants. They’re not even viewed as people tby many. So it wasn’t surprising to see Milos take the red pills. Milos and his Gen 2 clones put the powder from the pills into the air system. They’re sedatives, so they knocked everyone out. What does this mean for everyone on board?

Captain Garnet is able to save the day. Since she's a clone, she doesn't succumb to the sedatives right away, instead grabbed the wrist band to activate Kelly. With that, Kelly could get to Med Bay to wake up Kabir and then Alicia, who can take over the system with her hacking skills. Brice is able to detour the clones away from their intended destination, and it looks like there's hope for the Ark-1 crew yet.

We also get the truth about the explosion on the planet a few episodes ago. It wasn’t Ian after all. It was Milos, but he went to get Ian and made it clear it was time to take over Ark-1. Ian was clearly not happy, especially hearing that they would kill the Ark-1 crew if need be.

With Alicia in control of the system, Milos needs Garnet awake to use her override code. He threatens to kill Spencer if she doesn't do it. But Garnet always has a plan up her sleeve: she puts in her override code to lock them all out.

As that happens, Kabir and Dr. Marsh work together to get a gas through the air system to counter the sedatives. Angus helps by giving them access to his garden, so it's another case of everyone needing to work together to save the day. That’s one thing I’ve loved about every situation on The Ark. It’s been a true team effort.

In the end, Garnet and Ian work together to take down Milos and the rest of the clones. All is set right on Ark-1 again.

Brice shares his story about the lunar mission

With the reveal of Eva being Eastern Federation, Kimi wants to know about Brice. She has proof that Brice and Marissa Ye knew each other. The truth about the lunar mission has to finally come out.

Yes, Brice was on that mission. And yes, he was the pilot on the ship. He didn’t carry out his mission, but it wasn’t because he wanted the Eastern Federation to lose. It turns out that Brice was sent on a suicide mission. Ye was his co-pilot, and while he was happy to end his own life due to Klampkins, he wasn’t willing to end Ye’s life. He disobeyed orders in the hope of saving Ye. Instead, it ended the lives of many others, including Spencer’s dad.

Of course, Spencer is angry, but it’s easy to see why Brice made the call he did if you take emotion out of it. Spencer can’t, and that’s okay! He loved his dad and that loss was excruciating.

While Spencer wants Brice locked up for what he did, Garnet makes it clear that isn’t going to happen. Brice is demoted twice for his actions, which is punishment enough. Brice is also still reeling from the fact that Eva was Eastern Federation. In the end, he sees through to who Eva actually is and hugs her. There is hope for the two of them after all. That is if Eva isn’t executed.

To be honest, there are more important things to deal with by the end of this episode. An Eastern Federation ship drops out of FTL in front of Ark-1 with weapons pointed at Ark-1. This is a chance for Eva to prove the side she's on.

With Eva currently under the equivalent of house arrest, Engineering needs someone in charge. Garnet gives that job to Trust. It was such a good episode without his insufferable whining for so long. I’m not sure I can deal with him being the Head of Engineering.

However, he may be able to help with Kelly. After being activated, she collapses and starts burning up. It looks like she is going into organ failure because her enhancements were turned on for too long. Marsh can’t fix it all, but maybe Trust can do something.

This could be a turning point for Trust. He's still angry at Kelly for killing his wife. It doesn’t matter that Helena was proving to be a danger to humanity. Trust doesn’t want to believe that. Nor does it matter that Trust was having an affair with Cat. That didn’t arguably stop him from loving his wife. So the idea of Trust helping to save Kelly is laughable at this point. What could happen to make Trust realize that helping Kelly is in the best interests of everyone?
