It is.

I just read the first two issues, and it's really good. It continues right after the end of Seasons 7, with the characters we all know: Buffy, Xander (eye-patch), Dawn (angsty), Willow (red). It's written by Joss.

The third issue shipped this week. You'll probably have to trudge down to a real comic store to find the first couple of issues.

Side note: Anyone use midtowncomics.com to subscribe to issues? I'm dropping Mile High, and looking for a decent online alternative. The local selection for me sucks.

It's actually about eighteen months after the end of Season 7, so it's after the last season of Angel too.

And yes, it's excellent. -- View image here: https://cdn.arstechnica.net/forum/smilies/biggrin.gif -- The first story arc is being written by Joss himself, and they've also got Jane Espenson, Drew Z. Greenberg, Drew Goddard, and Steve DeKnight (who all wrote for the show) doing it too. -- View image here: http://episteme.arstechnica.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif --

The reference to the Immortal in the first issue was a great touch, and Andrew's ranting about Lando Calrissian's cloak in the second cracked me up. -- View image here: https://cdn.arstechnica.net/forum/smilies/biggrin.gif --

I've never been a comic book fan, but this series is excellent. Joss has said he's looking at at least 20 issues, and most likely quite a few more than that.

As for online, I've been getting them from Things From Another World, although I've found that there's a comic book store only a couple of blocks away from where I work so I'll get them there from now.

I'm having a blast with it (and they drop the same week that Marvel's Dark Tower line does, so I get to pick up both my comics the same week).

I haven't gotten volume three yet, but it's on my to do list for tomorrow.

I never followed Buffy, but I did pick up Fray a few months ago, and enjoyed it. It takes place many years later in the "Buffyverse".

My local shop had the first three and Fray so I picked em all up this morning. Been a while since I read a comic or went to that shop, so it was a nice change of pace after the gym in my Saturday routine.

I read the Buffy books but I'll keep Fray on the back burner for now. The Buffy stories were good though they felt short and weak in content when compared to a TV ep. I would say the first three books together feel like most of one solid episode's story and maybe introduce a basic arc from one or two more. The scale of slayer operations is much easier to portray convincingly in a comic than you could on TV, so it has the ability to go a new direction or at least approach the route it has taken more directly than it could on TV.

A recap would have been nice considering how long it has been since we saw Buff on the tube. A friend of mine is a stunt girl in hollywood and was one of the Slayerettes for S7 so I kind of got in to it towards the end there, but I did go back and watch them all and fell in love with Whedon's stuff then. Anyway, I remembered all the primary charachters but I'm a little rusty on where some of their loyalties currently lie or how they got to be in the positions they're in.

Overall though, money and time well spent. Nice to revisit the Buffyverse and nice to pick up a comic again.

Thanks for the thread.
