(P) A hotel busboy was arrested today on suspicion of being one of three men who invaded singer Alice Long's home, stripped her, photographed her, drugged her and subjected her family to a night of terror and torture. The pretty, 27-year-old vocalist performs with the Lawrence Welk orchestra and is billed as the "champagne lady." Joseph M. Cannon, 25, was arrested at his North Hollywood home and booked at the Van Nuys jail on suspicion of robbery. Detectives Frank Lynch and Don Sheldon said he works as a busboy at the Beverly Hills Hotel. They said he knows Miss Long and has danced with her at the Aragon Ballroom in nearby Ocean Park, where the band and she appear.
They said he had a collection of photographs of her and a containing exposed film. camera, officers said Cannon refused to make a statement. The film was taken to the police crime laboratory for development. Miss Long, arriving at her home early Sunday morning after singing with the band, was met by three men wearing surgical gloves and stocking masks. Van Scoy and Sherman Wagoner waited inside a tavern for two hours after being tipped it would be burglarized. It was but the detectives didn't find out about it until notified by fellow officers. During their waiting period, a burglar kicked in the front door, looted a juke box and a cigarette machine and then returned later to get six cans of beer.
The burglar was identified as Bobbie Gene Chaudoin, 31, after he was later arrested a cafe and then booked for investigation of burglary and vagrancy. The detectives explained they couldn't hear the break-in because they had stationed themselves near a rear door-expecting the burglar to come in that way. Oldroyd Attends Father's Funeral Dr. and Mrs. Carl Oldroyd and family, 942 Chautauqua are expected to return to Norman Tuesday from Arkansas City, where they attended the funeral of his father, J.

The 11-week Institute offers credit in four courses and is organized to give instruction to missionaries going into non-literate areas. Classes began Tuesday, Dr. Kenneth L. Pike, director of the Institute and professor of linguistics at the University of Michigan, said that most of the persons attending the Institute are missionaries learning new languages, analyzing dialects and converting those dialects into written languages, The Institute has about 500 field workers scattered throughout the world, bringing Christianity and literacy to tribes which have had little contact with the outside world. Other schools are in operation during the summer at the University of North Dakota; Caronport, London, England, and Melbourne, Australia.
